“AI in medicine is like self-driving cars, we all know it's the future and will save a lot of lives, but figuring out who uses it, who pays for it and who's responsible when it makes mistakes will take a while to sort out because those are human problems.” That's my simple canned answer to a question I get all the time!
Enter Radiomics
Radiology is largely anatomical where we look for structural changes indicative of existing disease. This is a reactive approach, like driving while looking in the rearview mirror. Radiomics is subvisual, analyzing details that the human eye cannot see, correlating the data to known outcomes to prognosticate earlier stages of disease, much like using advanced sensors and computers to empower self-driving cars.
Now wecan determine risk earlier, act earlier and treat earlier. This is a big way AI will save lives. This is Radiomics!
